In this dream I'm on top of a tall hill (it wasn't a big hill, just tall, about a good 100ft or so) sorta floating there above the ground, watching, in 3rd person, this battle unfolding before me. On the very top of this hill there were two very powerful, angry, male lions who were fighting two big, burly male jackals. It was quite the knock down drag out battle. Eventually, though, the two lions split off, each one taking on one of the jackals individually. I then watch as one of the lions overpowered the jackal he was fighting, and backs him up to the edge of the hilltop. (Aside from a small path around the sides that led to the top, the entire hill was surrounded by sheer, jagged cliffs.)
The lion then stood on his hind legs and, with both front paws, shoves him over the edge. The jackal then falls down screaming, and literally hits every single outcropping of rock there was on the way down. In doing so that jackal got absolutely rekt, and was completely dead by the time he hit the bottom. The remaining jackal, now facing two lions on his own, plays it smart and stays near the center of the hill to avoid the fate of his buddy. The fight continued as a stalemate after that. However, somehow, in the process of the fight (I didn't see how this happened. I only saw the aftermath) the lion who had shoved the jackal over the edge fell off the hilltop as well, and down the same cliff that the jackal had.
However, being a cat, he successfully avoided suffering any injuries on the way down by avoiding all of the rocky protrusions that had so destroyed the jackal. However, despite this, and despite landing on all fours like cats do, his landing was hard, and it just completely rung his bell. I then found myself at the base of the hill watching the lion as he rolled around on the ground, in pain, and completely disoriented as he clearly showed signs that, while he hadn't taken any damage, the impact had been hard, leaving him in pain, feeling disoriented, etc. Like I said, he got his bell rung. (impact shock, maybe?) About this time I watch as this two year old child (a young boy) emerges from a small stand of sumac in front of me and walk towards the lion. I don't know why he did that. I assume he saw that the lion was in distress and became worried about the big "kitty". So he wandered over to check on him.
Just as the little child got close, the lion reached out and grabbed him with his left arm and pulled the child in close to himself. He didn't hurt the kid. IE, no claws, teeth, etc. He just sorta hugged him, and the child kinda hugged him in return. In fact, the way the lion was acting, I don't even think he knew the child was there. So it was kinda like he was just flailing around in his pain and disorientation, and just sorta scooped up the child by accident. At this point in the dream I go from being an uninvolved invisible 3rd person observer to becoming a fully involved first person participant. Seeing the child in danger, I immediately leapt out of the small stand of sumac, where I'd been previously observing, snatched the child from the lion's arm, and then rushed him back to his home, which was a small house not far from the foot of this hill.
As I approach the house I notice that the front door has been braced open, which is apparently how the child had escaped and was subsequently wandering around. Just on the other side of this door I noticed a small, fenced porch, on which sat both of his parents. Upon arriving at the foot of the porch, they both look at me, as I'm holding their child, like, "Why do you have our child, and who exactly are you?" I then explain to them that their child had wandered off, and had been caught by a lion, but I rescued him and brought him back to them. They then realized what danger the child had been in and immediately rushed over, took him from my arms, and held him tight. I don't think they realized that the little child had been put into the danger that he had because of their foolishness. They were merely happy that he was okay given what I'd reported to them about their child. The dream ended there.
Footnote:
I didn't see the outcome of the fight on the hilltop, nor what happened to the other lion who'd been hurt. The dream ended before I could find that out.
