This is just a simple reminder to all those of you who listen to online preachers, teachers, and expositors. Or even your local pastors and elders. God commands us to be diligent to verify everything we hear to see if it's true. IE, to be Berean.
Acts 17:11 (KJV) - "These were more noble than those in Thessalonica, in that they received the word with all readiness of mind, and searched the scriptures daily, whether those things were so."
When you hear a preacher, even if they're one you trust, DO NOT take what they say at face value. Research it, study it, and prove out what they say. That goes for me too with anything I say. Research, research, research. God tells us to do this even with His own word.
Proverbs 25:2 (KJV) - "It is the glory of God to conceal a thing: but the honour of kings is to search out a matter."
So go ahead, listen to whatever they're teaching you. But before you take it to heart, always verify it against the bible. If God's word is silent on what they say, then use your own wisdom, or perhaps a little secular research, to determine the truthfulness of what they say. But if it is listed or spoken of in the bible, be sure to prove it out with great diligence. Anything less and you're opening yourself up to deceiving spirits and the doctrines of demons and men. Don't fall for a lie. Be diligent and search for the truth, discerning the truth from the lies of this world, and God will bless you immeasurably.
